Should a New Business Bother with Twitter?

As a member of Generation X, focused on my corporate career, I can honestly say that I never thought twice about creating a presence in social media.  I have been a member of LinkedIn for 5 years but never used it until about a year ago when a younger co-worker strongly encouraged me to at least create a decent profile. I have since enjoyed meeting lots of people and find the whole social networking thing facinating.

I haven’t really used facebook until recently to promote my websites. Since creating pages for my websites, I have enjoyed the sport of figuring out how to acquire “likes.” I have a long way to go but at least I am having fun with it. So my foray into the social media world has been gradual and required me to overcome a bit of a learning curve. No problem. I can see how LinkedIn and Facebook can be useful because you can disseminate good content and information, and after all, isn’t that what people are looing for when they surf the internet?  But what of Twitter? What can you say in 140 characters or less? How can such a “limited” platform make an impact on your business?

I will admit that I have not implemeted a real strategy with my Twitter use but I am proud of myself for having the accounts set up and for actively using them.  I will continue to grow and explore all the nuances of twitter.
